Mets broadcast crew eviscerates team after squandering playoff position

The Mets broadcast crew is very mad, and it is not going to take it anymore. Gary Cohen, Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez didn't mince words after the Mets' stunning collapse from a near-certain playoff position.

Tale of two seasons

On June 12, the Mets were 45-24, good for the best record in baseball, and had a 5.5-game lead in the NL East. It's been all downhill since then, as the Mets broadcast team has been unafraid to point out.

Despite the late-season swoon, the Mets had a fortunate turn of events on the last day of the regular season, as a win against the Miami Marlins would have snuck them back into the NL's final wild-card spot. As we all know by now, that didn't happen.

Cohen added, "It is unfathomable that this collection of talent winds up outside of an expanded playoff system."

When the game ended, the Mets broadcasters continued complaining, shifting their frustration to the Marlins players for taking a team picture after the game was over.

The Mets dropped two of three to the Marlins, who were eliminated from playoff contention last week. Reportedly, manager Carlos Mendoza won't be fired after this debacle, but more changes could be coming to the team's coaching staff.
