Mets' Carlos Carrasco to make season debut before end of July?

New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco has yet to make his MLB debut for the club as he continues to recover from the torn hamstring that first sidelined him in March and has made him a non-factor through the opening half of the season.

Per Anthony DiComo of the MLB website, Carrasco participated in pitchers' fielding practice for the first time during this process on Monday. DiComo added on Twitter that the 34-year-old is on track to make a big-league start by the end of July and before the trade deadline.

Carrasco received a platelet-rich plasma injection to strengthen his hamstring several weeks ago and resumed throwing exercises shortly after. It was known at that time he wouldn't be available until after the All-Star break, and there were concerns that he might  not face top-tier hitters until some point in August.

Carrasco and shortstop Francisco Lindor joined the Mets via a January trade with Cleveland. The right-hander compiled a 3-4 record with a 2.91 ERA and 82 strikeouts across 12 starts and 68 innings pitched during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
