The New York Mets and New York Yankees will meet at Citi Field on Friday under desperate circumstances. The Mets are coming off their first series win in over two weeks, and the Yankees just got swept in four games by the Toronto Blue Jays on the road for the first time in franchise history.

Both teams are in second place in their divisions after previously holding first place. The Mets are 1.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies, while the Yankees are now one game behind the Blue Jays and are tied with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza revealed his thoughts about the Yankees before Friday's contest, via SNY.

"They're a really good team - when you look at that lineup top to bottom, their rotation...that's a really good team," he said. "I know they're going through a [rough] stretch like we're going through, [but] they're a good team."

The Yankees won two out of three games against the Mets at Yankee Stadium from May 16-18.

The Yankees have lost four straight and are 3-7 in their last 10 games, while the Mets have won two straight and are 4-6 in their last 10. The Mets are 1.5 games ahead of the Yankees in the overall standings.

Right-handed pitcher Marcus Stroman (1-1, 8.16 ERA) will pitch for the Yankees against Mets right-hander Justin Hagenman.  Stroman will be making his fifth start of the season, while the rookie Hagenman will be making his third.

The contest will start at 3:10 p.m. EST.
