The New York Mets can’t complain too much yet, as they’re one game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East. However, they didn’t play their best baseball in their three-game set against the Minnesota Twins.
The Mets started off with a 5-1 win on Monday, but lost 6-3 on Tuesday and 4-3 on Wednesday. Twins first baseman Ty France hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning off of right-handed reliever Reed Garrett.
New York scored all three of it’s runs in the eighth, and manager Carlos Mendoza admitted that the team needs to be more consistent, vía SNY.
"Overall, we couldn't close the deal today. We didn't get the job done,” he said. “We've just got to play better."
The Mets had 10 hits against the Twins’ nine, but were just 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Meanwhile, star players Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor are hitting .231 and .239, respectively. The team ranks 22nd in the league with a combined .219 average.
New York will now return home on Thursday to host the St. Louis Cardinals in a four-game series. After that, it’ll host the Philadelphia Phillies for three games.
The Mets will then go back on the road to face the Washington Nationals in a four-game set before going home to face the Arizona Diamondbacks for three games.
