The New York Mets are off to a great start in the 2025 season. After defeating the Minnesota Twins on Monday, they have won 11 of their first 16 games and currently sit in first place in the National League East division. The Mets currently lead all of Major League Baseball in team ERA as their rotation and bullpen have been excellent.

Unfortunately, their offense is a bit behind schedule. New York’s .667 team OPS ranks 21st in baseball entering Tuesday. However, star first baseman Pete Alonso has been one bright spot for a Mets lineup that desperately needs all of the offensive production it can get.

Speaking with reporters after Monday's win, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza sent a message on Alonso’s hot start.

“Game after game, it seems like he’s controlling the strike zone, aggressive on pitches in the strike zone, getting the barrel head out, making hard contact, using the whole field. He’s dictating at-bats right now,” he said (via Anthony DiComo of MLB.com).”

Through the first 16 games, Alonso is slashing .345/.464/.673 for a 1.136 OPS. He has also hit four homers and driven in 19 runners.

After signing a two-year, $54 million extension to return to Queens this past offseason, the right-handed slugger may end up exercising his player option after this season. This would allow him to hit the open market once again to secure a more lucrative deal. If he keeps putting up these kinds of numbers, he could be in line for a huge payday.
