Mets Deliver Upsetting Brett Baty Development

Brett Baty’s night ended early Wednesday after the New York Mets third baseman was removed from their wild 15-14 extra-inning win over the Miami Marlins with left knee pain.

Baty singled during the second inning at LoanDepot Park but was taken out immediately after the hit. The Mets later confirmed the reason for his departure through their official X account.

The timing is frustrating for Baty, who had been trying to build momentum during the final weeks of the season. He entered Wednesday batting .229 with 10 home runs, 50 RBIs, 48 runs and 88 hits across 129 games.

Baty’s exit came during a six-run second inning that helped New York take an 8-0 lead. Christopher Morel replaced him at first base and quickly made an impact, hitting a two-run homer while finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

The Mets eventually watched their big lead disappear as Miami battled back, but Francisco Lindor’s three-run homer in the seventh helped New York regain control.

New York ultimately held on for the win and completed a three-game sweep of the Marlins. The Mets improved to 68-78, but their season is already focused more on evaluating players and building toward 2027.

The Mets have not yet announced the extent of Baty’s knee issue or whether he will miss additional time. Morel gives them an experienced option at third base if Baty needs a stint on the injured list, but the next update on Baty will be the bigger story for New York.
