Mets Expected to Make Another Move After Trade With Orioles

The New York Mets have turned a corner since the All-Star break, surging firmly back into a playoff spot with renewed confidence. A four-game winning streak, including a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels, has lifted the mood in Queens and reinforced belief in the roster’s potential with the second half of the season already underway.

Led by improved performances from Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor, the Mets’ offense appears to have come alive again after a stint of steady decline. But even amid the recent success, it was clear the bullpen remained a soft spot. With injuries depleting the relief corps and late-game struggles costing wins earlier in the season, adding depth to the pitching staff became a priority for the front office.

On Friday, the Mets addressed that need by acquiring left-handed reliever Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles, pending a physical, according to SNY’s Andy Martino.

While the acquisition of Soto is exciting news for the Mets fanbase, Martino added that the move is a solid “start to trade deadline season for Mets” and the team is expected to pursue additional bullpen help in the coming days.

Soto brings a lefty arm and individual pedigree to the back end of the Mets’ bullpen. The 30-year-old has posted a 3.96 ERA over 36.1 innings this season while holding left-handed hitters to a .138 batting average (per MLB.com ). A two-time All-Star with closer experience, he provides a valuable late-inning option alongside Edwin Diaz and Reed Garrett.

The Mets now turn their attention to a weekend road series against the San Francisco Giants, a crucial test as they look to hold the National League East’s top spot.
