The first-place New York Mets clinched a series win at the division-rival Atlanta Braves via Wednesday afternoon's 7-3 victory at Truist Park. That result increased New York's lead in the National League East standings over Atlanta to two-and-a-half games, but shortstop Francisco Lindor did well to keep things in perspective when speaking following the win.
"They are a good team," Lindor said of the defending World Series champion Braves, per The Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "Beating them in July is just beating them in July."
The 28-year-old added that notching victories over Atlanta during the playoffs this fall "is when it counts."
After Lindor missed out on the NL All-Star squad for the second straight year since he joined the Mets, he remarked earlier this week that he would grade the first half of his 2022 campaign a "B." The four-time All-Star selection went on to reach 64 RBI for the season in Atlanta when he crushed a three-run homer in the top of the third of Wednesday's contest:

"Selfishly, I'd like to see him get four days off because he plays almost every day, but you could make a real good case for him going to the All-Star Game, too," Mets manager Buck Showalter said of Lindor. Showalter insisted, though, that he "hasn't heard a whimper" from his shortstop about the alleged snub.
The 55-34 Mets will close things out ahead of the All-Star break with a four-game series at the Chicago Cubs that gets underway Thursday night.
