Mets GM Makes Juan Soto Admission After 0-for-4 Against White Sox

If superstar outfielder Juan Soto were playing as well as normal, the New York Mets would likely have the best record in baseball. However, the four-time All-Star is slashing just .224/.352/.393 with eight homers and 25 RBI in 55 games thus far.

Still, the Mets are only 2.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers atop MLB's overall standings, as the rest of their team has picked up the slack. Their pitching staff tops baseball with a 2.87 team ERA, while their offense is tied for seventh with a .733 OPS.

Meanwhile, Soto hasn't had a hit since Saturday and hasn't hit a homer since May 9. Mets general manager and president of baseball operations David Stearns sounded off about the former New York Yankee on Friday, via SNY.

"Do I think he's trying to do a little bit too much right now? Yeah, I think he's probably trying to do a little bit too much right now," he admitted. "And that is natural for a player who cares."

New York signed Soto to a record 15-year, $765 million contract in the offseason.

The 26-year-old went 0-for-10 with one RBI and two walks in the Mets' last series against the Chicago White Sox. He also still hasn't notched a three-hit game yet this year.

Soto won the 2019 World Series with the Washington Nationals and helped lead the New York Yankees to the World Series last season, their first championship appearance since 2009. The five-time Silver Slugger also played for the San Diego Padres from 2022-23.
