With Opening Day set to begin in just a few hours, the Mets made a minor move to bolster their outfield depth. Tommy Pham and the New York Mets are in agreement on a minor-league deal, first reported by ESPN’s Jorge Castillo.
A reunion few saw coming — Pham, a former Met in 2023, was traded at the deadline to the Arizona Diamondbacks. During a disappointing 2023 season in New York, Pham was one of the few bright spots, batting .268 with 10 home runs. He later carried that production into Arizona, helping the D-backs advance to the World Series.
Over 13 seasons, Pham has played for 10 different organizations, bringing a veteran, journeyman presence and reliable depth wherever he lands. In 2025, the 38-year-old appeared in 120 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates, batting .245 with 10 home runs, 52 RBIs, and a .330 on-base percentage.
For the Mets, Pham will likely begin the season in Triple-A, serving as an emergency option if issues arise at the major-league level. Carson Benge is expected to open the season as the starting right fielder, with veteran Tyrone Taylor also in the mix. In the minors, Pham will join MJ Melendez as an experienced depth option.
