The New York Mets opened a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, securing a 9-3 victory. This win improved New York's overall record to 22-11, which is three games better than the second place Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East.
It has been a combination of stellar pitching and timely hitting that has vaulted New York to this strong start, with several contributors up and down the roster making a strong impact. One of these players has been left-handed outfielder Jesse Winker, who entered Sunday's game against St. Louis with a 110 OPS+ in 67 at-bats.
Winker played a role in New York's win on Saturday, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Back in the lineup on Sunday, Winker was removed in the fourth inning (h/t Anthony DiComo of MLB.com). There was immediate concern among the fanbase when Winker was removed, and the Mets have since announced an official update on the 2021 All-Star.
Per the team, Winker was removed with right side discomfort.

Winker has dominated right-handed pitching in his career, owning an .837 OPS against righties. Now in his second season with the Mets, Winker was acquired by New York last year in a trade with the Washington Nationals.
For his career, Winker owns an .802 OPS with 96 home runs. The 31-year-old outfielder is in his ninth MLB season, five of which came with the Cincinnati Reds who selected him 49th overall in the 2012 draft.
The Mets certainly hope his removal on Sunday will not lead to an extended absence.
