The New York Mets picked up a big 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, but it, unfortunately, came with a cost. Mark Vientos left the game during extra innings after suffering a hamstring injury while running the bases.
Now, with Vientos' sidelined, the Mets have made a roster move. The National League East club has called up infielder Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse.
Mauricio, 24, has been absolutely dominating in Triple-A, so it makes sense that the Mets are giving him a shot on the major-league roster with Vientos out. The infielder has appeared in nine games with Triple-A Syracuse this season, posting three home runs, eight RBIs, and a .515 batting average. Now, he will aim to stay hot after being called up to the Mets' roster from here.
Mauricio last appeared in the majors during the 2023 season with the Mets. In 26 games that season with the club, he had two home runs, nine RBIs, seven stolen bases, and a .248 batting average.
With Mauricio landing this call-up, all eyes will certainly be on him. He is considered one of the Mets' most promising prospects, and it will be fascinating to see how much of an impact he makes with the major league team from here.
