Griffin Canning continues to put together a tremendous 2025 MLB season for the New York Mets. The right-hander was sharp once again in a 6-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.
Canning, now 6-2 on the year, tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits. He struck out seven and walked only one. His ERA dropped to 2.90, and he's racked up 57 strikeouts against just 26 walks on the season.
After the game, the Mets summed up Canning’s night with a simple message:
“Canning shut 'em down.”

Canning, 29, is a right-hander from Mission Viejo, California. He began his career with the Angels, who drafted him in 2017. He played in Anaheim until 2024 and won a Gold Glove in 2020.
The Mets have now taken two of the first three games in Los Angeles. With a 39-23 record, New York leads the National League and sits 1.5 games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East.
Offensively, the Mets started hot. Juan Soto drove in a run early, and Pete Alonso blasted a two-run homer in the first inning to put New York up 3-0. That lead held, and Alonso added a second home run later in the game to seal the win.
For the Dodgers, their only offense came from Andy Pages, who hit a solo home run in the ninth. The Mets used two relievers to record the final nine outs, limiting Los Angeles to just three hits over those last three innings.
The series wraps up Thursday afternoon. After that, the Mets head to Colorado for a three-game set while the Dodgers travel to St. Louis.
