Mets mark insane season first with sweep vs Guardians

The New York Mets didn’t live up to their expectations, which led to them making some changes earlier in the season. That didn’t make much of a difference, but the best thing they could do was to continue to play hard every game and try to stack some wins. They’ve done that since the trade deadline, as they just swept the Cleveland Guardians, making it their first one on the road this season.

“The Mets swept the Guardians and are undefeated since the Trade Deadline. That dead cat sure can bounce,” Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

That’s a step in the right direction for the Mets, even though they don’t have much of a chance of making the playoffs. At the same time, there could still be some hope from some people that they can make a postseason run, but they’ll have to basically try not to lose more than 10 games for the rest of the season.

It’s hard to see that after putting in perspective how they’ve played this entire season, but if you’re looking at just after the trade deadline, anything is possible.

The Mets made a few moves before the deadline, but it felt like they were more focused on beyond this season than anything. They still have winning players on the roster, such as Francisco Lindor, who probably believes the team still has a chance to make the playoffs.

It’s going to take a lot for them to pull it off, but if they keep taking one game at a time, there’s no telling where they’d end up toward the end of the season.
