Mets Player Preparing for Move After Injury News

In the first 18 games of the season, the New York Mets are currently on pace for 99 wins. This is despite a slumping offense and major question marks all over the field. As the Mets continue to get healthier, they will need to make some key lineup decisions to solidify their roster.

One decision that needs to be made is who will become the everyday centerfielder after the injury to Jose Siri. That position was not a strength to begin with, but now it becomes a real area of concern for manager Carlos Mendoza to address sooner rather than later.

But the Mets could look at a young infielder to fill the void in center. In an article by Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated, he listed Luisangel Acuña as one option to fill the void in Queens.

“Last but not least, Luisangel Acuña has experience playing center field in the minors," he said. "And while manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that there aren't any plans to play him there in live game action as of yet, Acuña has begun preparing during pregame drills. The 23-year-old is also on a hot streak as of late, collecting eight hits in his last 24 at-bats.”

Acuña has been on a hot streak after a rough start. Entering Thursday, he is slashing .263/.349/.342 for a .691 OPS. Over his last seven games, his OPS is an impressive .846 mark.

With the injury to Siri, Acuña could see his path to everyday playing time be in center. The 23-year-old brother of superstar Ronald Acuña has spent time in center field during his time in the minors.

He has logged 35 games and 289 innings in center throughout two seasons in the Mets system. At the same time, this experience pales to his time spent in the infield, but it's notable due to his potential versatility.
