Mets Reunite With Former High-Leverage Reliever

The New York Mets are bringing back veteran left-hander Brooks Raley, officially, according to New York Post baseball insider Joel Sherman.

Raley was one of the workhorses of the Mets' staff as recently as 2023, with 66 appearances that season. As a high-leverage reliever for New York that year, Raley racked up 61 strikeouts and 3 saves, finishing 11 games total for the Mets.

He closed out the 2023 campaign with a 2.80 ERA and a 1.262 WHIP.

After a much briefer 8-game stint with the Mets in 2024, which was cut short by a UCL injury that required the dreaded Tommy John surgery, a long-rumored Raley reunion is finally upon us.

Raley is re-signing on a "one-year deal with a team option for 2026," per Sherman. The New York Post reporter also noted that this deal is still "pending [a] physical" as of April 25.

According to Sherman and The Post, Raley threw for 13 different teams last week after a long rehab. He's expected to be ready to take the mound for live baseball action in June and would require a rehab stint before rejoining the major league roster.

For now, this is a low-risk flyer with some added familiarity for the Mets. Quality left-handed relievers are always hard to find, and it's never a bad idea to bolster your organizational depth in this area.

The Mets currently have A.J. Minter and Danny Young on their active roster as left-handed arms coming out of the bullpen. If Raley were able to regain his old form after working his way back from injury, he'd be a welcome addition inside this championship-hungry clubhouse.
