Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor out after slamming finger in hotel door

Francisco Lindor finished the month of May red hot, but a marquee series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets got started without the star shortstop.

Lindor, 28, was ruled out Thursday night after a pair of double doors at his hotel room closed on his finger.

"They closed at the same time and the next thing you know I got a swollen finger," Lindor said, via ESPN. "I ran around the room for like three minutes. I didn't want to look at it. I felt like I had my heart in that finger."

The Mets' 35-17 record is the best in the National League, just ahead of the Dodgers' 33-17 record. New York won 11 of its last 14 games entering Thursday. Lindor batted .352 with 21 RBIs over that 14-game stretch.

Lindor said that the swollen finger was affecting his ability to throw and bat, but it's not expected to keep him out of action for more than a day. Luis Guillorme, who has mostly played second base this season, instead started at shortstop for the Mets.
