Mets sign reliever Trevor May to two-year deal

The process of the New York Mets conducting business "like a major market team" under new owner Steve Cohen is underway. 

According to Andy Martino of SNY, ESPN and Anthony DiComo of the league's official website, the Mets and 31-year-old right-handed relief pitcher Trevor May have agreed to terms on a two-year contract. 

While May isn't the type of big-name signing Mets fans hope Cohen will gift them this holiday season, he bolsters a bullpen that has routinely failed New York starting pitchers and the team's lineup in recent years. The addition of a future starter either via free agency or a trade would allow Seth Lugo to return to the bullpen as well, where the Mets need him most. 

May underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2017 and produced excellent numbers over the past three seasons.
