New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso may not have a future teaching high school math, but students who were surprised by the 2019 Rookie of the Year during a Zoom session probably won't mind he's a novice as it pertains to the subject.
According to News 12, Gregory Berry, a teacher at Jericho High School on Long Island, recently made a charitable donation that resulted in the 25-year-old Mets star dialing into one of Berry's Zoom sessions earlier this week.
Called in some reinforcements for our Cyclic Quadrilateral lesson! Thank you @Pete_Alonso20 for the intro! Clearly, I am missing @NYMBaseball @SportsCenter #remotelearning #peoplehelpingpeople pic.twitter.com/0suDNXWjnm

"I know you guys are in Mr. Berry's class and I know he's teaching geometry," the Polar Bear said to the students. "I know he wants me to say something about 'make sure to learn your cyclic quadrilaterals,' but I don't even know what the hell a cyclic quadrilateral is."
Alonso also expressed grief over the fact that school sports were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
"I'm sorry about y'all's season, boys," he said to members of the school's baseball team. "Quite frankly, this virus sucks, but I can't wait for you guys to get back to playing again. We're all gonna power through this together."
"I hope y'all stay safe," Alonso concluded, "and LFGM."
First off, Mr. Alonso, a cyclic quadrilateral is a quadrilateral drawn inside a circle (thank you, BBC), and we're sure they are very useful in multiple avenues of daily life.
Secondly, even All-Stars who win the Home Run Derby their first try need to watch their language when they're speaking with impressionable youths. We're confident one of Mr. Berry's students would receive detention for proclaiming "LFGM" during a class.
Anyway, here's Alonso winning the trophy at Progressive Field last July.
