Mets sold $1 million in single-game tickets after Carlos Correa announcement

In a shocking turn of events on Wednesday, shortstop Carlos Correa's free-agent deal with the San Francisco Giants fell apart, and the New York Mets swooped in, giving fans an early Christmas gift.

According to Jon Heyman, Mets fans were pretty excited by the move, buying up a million dollars worth of single-game tickets after news that Correa was coming to town broke.

Correa initially seemed destined for the Bay Area, agreeing to a 13-year, $350 million deal last week. However, on the day of shortstops' introductory press conference, the Giants' backed out following reports of "medical concerns" surrounding Correa's physical. The Mets acted quickly on Correa, agreeing to a 12-year, $315 million contract later in the day.

On Thursday, Correa's agent, Scott Boras, clarified the situation, saying there were no issues "whatsoever" regarding the two-time All-Star's health. Boras added that Correa's 12-year deal with the Mets could become official by Christmas on Sunday.

Despite reportedly being dressed and ready, with several family members present, for his presser with the Giants, Boras said Correa "tackled" him in celebration when he learned of the agreement with the Mets.

The Mets have been busy this offseason. Along with Correa, they've signed 2022 AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander (two years, $86.7 million), Brandon Nimmo (eight years, $162 million), Edwin Diaz (five years, $102 million), and Japanese star Kodai Senga (five years, $75 million).

According to Baseball Reference, the Mets have signed nine free agents, adding over $806 million in salary.
