Mets to meet with MLB executive Friday to discuss HBPs

Entering Thursday's action, New York Mets batters had been hit by a pitch an MLB-high 19 times. The next-closest group in team HBPs is the Baltimore Orioles at 13.

After days of airing out their frustration with the discrepancy and perceived targeting of their hitters, the Mets may finally see the league take some steps to address their concerns. At the very least, the club will be meeting with MLB brass on Friday.

New York -- who happens to currently have the best record in baseball at 14-6 -- saw their anger come to a breaking point during Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, when both teams took part in a benches-clearing brawl. The melee transpired after J.D. Davis of the Mets was plunked on the foot in the top of the eighth, and in the bottom half of the frame, Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado took exception to an up-and-in heater thrown by Yoan Lopez.

Following the incident, Arenado and St. Louis first base coach Stubby Clapp were ejected from the game.
