Miami Marlins Right Fielder Jesus Sanchez had a game for the ages last night at home against the Chicago Cubs. He had a leadoff home run and a walk-off triple as the Marlins prevailed 8-7. Sanchez joined Dexter Fowler as the only players since 1901 to have a leadoff home run and a walk-off triple in the same game.
Sanchez is also the first player with a leadoff homer and walk-off RBI in the same game since Alex Gordon on June 26, 2013. Sanchez has not been strong at the plate in 2025. He is hitting .240 with 2 home runs and 12 RBI. Will his performance on Monday help jumpstart the Miami Marlins?

It has been another disappointing season for the Marlins. They are in last place in the National League East with a 19-27 record. Miami’s offense has been mediocre. They are 12th in batting average, 21st in home runs, and 17th in runs scored. Right Fielder Kyle Stowers leads the team in many offensive categories. He is also top 20 in the league in batting average, home runs, RBI, and OPS.
Miami’s pitching staff has been the weaker part of their ballclub in 2025. They are 28th in ERA, 25th in opposing batting average, and 26th in WHIP. Starting Pitcher Max Meyer is 19th in the league in strikeouts, but the pitching staff has not held up their end of the bargain in 2025.
Sanchez and the Miami Marlins return to the diamond this evening for the middle game of their three-game set against the Chicago Cubs. If the Marlins can continue producing on offense while getting better production on the mound, they can begin stacking up wins.
