The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Michael Kopech on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation and recalled Will Klein from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Kopech’s IL stint is retroactive to June 28, making Monday, July 13 the earliest day he can return.

Kopech heads to the IL for the second time this season after opening the year on the shelf with a right shoulder impingement. He was activated on June 7 after a lengthy rehab process.

Kopech downplayed his current injury, saying he’s pain free and this is more of a precautionary measure. He underwent scans that only showed inflammation and received an injection to treat it.

The primary concern for Kopech and the Dodgers was he would compensate with the issue on his drive leg and cause further issues, especially with his arm.

Given the minor nature of the issue, he should be back sooner rather than later, but the Dodgers will make sure he’s fully ready to go as they prioritize the postseason.

The 29-year-old has thrown seven scoreless innings in eight appearances this season.

He was acquired at the trade deadline from the Chicago White Sox last season and has made 32 appearances for the Dodgers while posting a 0.87 ERA.

He is in his sixth Major League season, having spent time with the White Sox (2018-24) and the Dodgers (2024-). Kopech has pitched 407 innings, tallying 453 strikeouts with an opponents batting average of .216.

Will Klein back with Dodgers

Klein returns to the squad after being optioned on Thursday for the return of Luis García, who was later designated for assignment.

The 25-year-old has made two appearances for the Dodgers this season, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings. He was acquired on June 2 from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for left-handed pitcher Joe Jacques.

Klein made his Major League debut in 2024, allowing nine runs in 7.1 innings between the Royals and Athletics.

In five Minor League seasons, he is 13-11 with a 5.42 ERA in 181 games.
