Miguel Rojas officially announced his retirement after a 13-year career with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins, just after their season came to an end on Thursday, Oct. 15.
Rojas was expecting 2026 to be his final season in Major League Baseball, but was potentially open to the idea of playing another season if the Dodgers were trying to defend another World Series title.
But after being swept by the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series, Rojas made it official. He first shared the news and thanked his teammates after Game 4.
He then went on to post a message on Instagram, thanking the Dodgers community and saying his goodbye to the game as a professional player:
“All I can say is THANK YOU for changing my life
I will forever be grateful and so proud that I wore Dodger blue and represented this community every single day.
Love you Dodger Family .-

Rojas spent eight seasons with the Marlins and five seasons with the Dodgers, but started and ended his career in L.A. while winning two World Series titles.
Rojas had one of the most important moments in Dodgers history when he slugged a game-tying home run in the ninth inning of Game 7 of the 2025 World Series. He also made an impact off the field, becoming the first player to win three consecutive Roy Campanella Awards, as voted on by his teammates.
On the field, Rojas appeared in 531 games as a Dodger, batting .251/.305/.358 while playing excellent defense at shortstop, second base and third base, and even filling in as a pitcher on rare occasions.
Over his MLB career, Rojas played in 1,401 games, hitting .260/.313/.363 with 61 home runs, 386 RBI and 457 runs scored. He’s spent time at shortstop, second base, third base, first base, pitcher and left field in his career.
With his retirement, Rojas is now joining the Dodgers in a front office role focused on player development. He first announced that he planned to move into that role after he retired on his Instagram.
Rojas hopes to eventually manage an MLB club, and has played a key role in helping players on the Dodgers become better defenders. Mookie Betts is among the players who has regularly praised Rojas for assisting his transition to becoming a Gold Glove-caliber shortstop.
