The Milwaukee Brewers are 95-60 and need to win just one more game in order to clinch their third consecutive National League Central Division title. They still have the best record in all Major League Baseball and are within grasp of clinching a first round bye and homefield advantage throughout the postseason.
All season long, Milwaukee has been able to overcome injury after injury to key players, particularly on their pitching staff. The hope was that if they could just maintain their winning ways, they would be able to get everyone back healthy in time for the playoffs.
But now that the postseason is right around the corner, the Brewers are continuing to battle injuries, and, unfortunately, Brandon Woodruff is the latest pitcher heading to the injured list.
With starter Jose Quintana already on the injured list, Milwaukee has already been challenged with their starting pitching depth. Woodruff, who did not make his season debut until right before the All-Star break due to recovering from shoulder surgery, was a stabilizing force in the rotation, but now is being placed on the 15-day injured list with a lat strain:
The Brewers are placing RHP Brandon Woodruff on the 15-day IL with a right lat strain.
Retroactive to Sept. 18, meaning he would be eligible to pitch in the NLDS if healthy.
Will have more information on this shortly.

Woodruff is 7-2 with a 3.20 ERA in 12 starts this season.
This placement on the 15-day injured list ends his brief regular season. However, if he is able to recover, he will be able to return in time for the National League Divisional Series.
If the Brewers do indeed clinch the first round bye, they would not play in the Wild Card round, which would mean Woodruff has the potential to not miss any postseason games.
