The Milwaukee Brewers have the best record in all Major League Baseball at 67-44, a development that many outside of the organization, and even many of their fans, did not see coming. After all, the Brewers are not exactly known for being big spenders in free agency and are prone to trade away their best players instead of re-signing them.
This was true too during the past offseason as shortstop Willy Adames was allowed to walk in free agency, where he signed a seven-year $182 million contract with the San Francisco Giants. Additionally, the Brewers traded two-time All-Star closer Devin Williams to the New York Yankees for starting pitcher Nestor Cortes and infielder prospect Caleb Durbin.
And now, with over 100 games played in the 2025 MLB season, it is pretty clear that Milwaukee got the better end of the deal.
The decision to trade Williams was not an unexpected by Brewers fans, and after he blew a save against the New York Mets in the postseason, many even welcomed it.
Unfortunately for Williams and his upcoming free agency prospects, he has not fared well under the bright lights of New York. He currently is 3-3 with a 5.10 ERA and 17 saves in 20 chances.
And his latest blown save came last night, with the Yankees leading 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning:

What is worse, the Yankees could not score in the 10th and Texas won the game on a walk-off three-run homer in extra innings.
Meanwhile, Trevor Megill made the NL All-Star team this year and is 3-2 with a 2.13 ERA and 25 saves in 28 chances. Durbin has emerged as Milwaukee’s everyday third baseman, though he recently started being platooned at the position with Anthony Seigler.
Cortes was traded to the San Diego Padres at this year’s trade deadline for outfielder Brandon Lockridge.
