Milwaukee Brewers: Former Prospect Entering 2nd Season of College Football as 30-Year-Old Sophomore

Prior to the 2018 MLB season, the Milwaukee Brewers made a couple of notable roster transactions that altered the course of the franchise. And they happened on the same day.

For one, Milwaukee signed free agent centerfielder Lorenzo Cain, who had previously been one of the Brewers’ top prospects before he was traded to the Kansas City Royals for Zack Greinke. While in Kansas City, he won a World Series, became an All-Star, and was once a top-three finisher for AL MVP. In his second stint with the Brewers, he won a Gold Glove, made another All-Star team, and helped the Brewers become perennial postseason contenders.

The other, of course, was the trade of four top prospects to the Miami Marlins for outfielder Christian Yelich. While Cain has since retired from baseball, Yelich continues to be one of the Brewers’ best and most popular players. He has won a NL MVP Award, made three All-Star teams, and signed the richest contract in franchise history since the trade happened.

Meanwhile, one of the players Milwaukee gave up for him is currently playing college football.

Former Milwaukee Brewers Prospect Monte Harrison Is Playing College Football

As mentioned, the Brewers sent four prospects, Monte Harrison, Luis Brinson, Isan Diaz, and Jordan Yamamoto to the Marlins in exchange for Yelich. And while they were all highly touted, and while Brinson was considered on of the best prospects in baseball, none of them are currently playing in the Majors.

Harrison, in fact, is no longer playing baseball at all. Instead, he is currently a 30-year-old college sophomore who is playing football for Arkansas:

Last season, Harrison caught only two passes for 29 yards as a freshman, but is looking to have a bigger role in the offense in 2025.

After being traded by the Brewers, Harrison appeared in 50 Major League games for the Marlins and Los Angeles Angels. He hit .176/.253/.294 with two home runs, six RBI, and seven stolen bases.

The year before he was traded, Harrison had hit .272/.350/.481 with 21 home runs, 67 RBI, and 27 stolen bases for Milwaukee’s Low-A and High-A minor league teams.
