Milwaukee Brewers: Freddy Peralta Matches Feat Last Seen by Team in 1992 in 8-7 Win Over Dodgers

The Milwaukee Brewers kept the beat going with an 8-7 road victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night. It was their ninth victory in a row and improved their record to 58-40 on the season. Every Brewers player that had an at bat had at least one hit, and both Isaac Collins and Joey Ortiz had solo home runs to help lead Milwaukee to victory.

It was, however, an uncharacteristically shaky night for the Brewers’ pitching staff. All-Star starting pitcher Freddy Peralta allowed four runs in five innings, giving up all four in the bottom of the third inning (including a two-run home run by Shohei Ohtani). Aaron Ashby allowed a run on one and a third innings of work while Jared Koenig gave up two solo home runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Still, the Brewers were able to get the win and help Peralta achieve something no Milwaukee had accomplished since 1992.

Despite giving up four runs in the frame, Peralta was able to limit the damage in the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth, Collins hit his solo home run to give Milwaukee a 5-4 lead. Peralta came back out for the fifth inning and shut down Los Angeles hitters again, making him eligible for the win.

And when the Brewers were able to extend and maintain their lead over the Dodgers after Peralta exited the game, he earned his 12th win of the season. This is the most wins by any starting pitcher in all of Major League Baseball so far this season.

But it was also the seventh consecutive start in which Peralta earned a win. No Milwaukee pitcher had won that many starts in a row since Cal Eldred did it for the Brewers back in 1992:

Freddy Peralta is the first Brewers pitcher to be the winning pitcher in 7+ straight starts since 1992, when Cal Eldred did it in 10 in a row.
