The Milwaukee Brewers won their second game in a row in thrilling fashion on Wednesday afternoon. With runners on first and third in the bottom of the 11th inning, second baseman Brice Turang, who had been 0-5 at the plate heading into the frame, laid down a perfect bunt. He sped down the first base line while third baseman Oliver Dunn scampered home, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
Jackson Chourio hit his first home run of the season in the first inning and drove in the tying run with a double in the bottom of the tenth. Freddy Peralta, the Brewers’ ace, pitched eight innings, gave up two hits, one run, and struck out eight.
But while Milwaukee was busy winning the game, the team’s owner, Mark Attanasio, was doing a speaking engagement at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. And during this engagement, he revealed there may be a significant free agent signing happening in the near future.
It is no secret that the Brewers are in a bad spot in terms of their starting pitching. Heading into the 2025 MLB regular season, they only had three healthy starting pitchers: Peralta, Nestor Cortes, and Aaron Civale. DL Hall, Aaron Ashby, and Tobias Myers all suffered injuries during Spring Training.
To make the situation even more dire, Civale suffered a hamstring strain during his first start of the year and is on the injured list now, too.
Jose Quintana, who was signed by Milwaukee late in Spring Training, is still ramping up to get ready to join the rotation, but that will not happen for a couple more weeks. Brandon Woodruff is working his way back, but may not be able to join the rotation for another month.
It may not be a surprise, then, that while speaking a Carroll University, Attanasio said that Milwaukee is brining in a veteran starting pitcher for a tryout:
Giving a talk at Carroll University this afternoon (go Pios), Brewers owner Mark Attanasio mentioned that he was talking with agent Scott Boras in recent days, and an unsigned Boras client will be throwing a bullpen for the Brewers to watch. pic.twitter.com/EkC6mCXmPB

Attanasio notes that they have been talking to Scott Boras and are bringing in one of his veteran clients. Dave Gasper of Athlon Sports has theorized that this mystery pitcher is Spencer Turnbull, who missed most of last season with a lat injury.
When healthy, though, Turnbull was 3-0 with a 2.65 ERA.
