The Milwaukee Brewers are one of the biggest topics in all Major League Baseball. Winners of 11 consecutive games, the Brewers are now owners of the best record in all baseball at 60-40 and, of course, are now in sole possession of first place in the National League Central Division.
Rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski, who has taken the league by storm, was named to the NL All-Star roster last week after just five career starts. Indeed, any game in which he is pitching is not only heavily viewed by Brewers fans, but by baseball fans everywhere.
But with so many great things happening around and involving the Milwaukee baseball club, some stories fall through the cracks, as was the case with the recent re-signing of left-handed pitcher Bruce Zimmerman.
Left-handed pitcher Bruce Zimmerman signed a minor league contract with the Brewers during the offseason. He did not, of course, make the Major League roster and has spent the entire season with the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee’s Triple-A affiliate).
In 19 games (13 starts) this season, Zimmerman is 6-5 with a 4.35 ERA. With no call-up to the Big League club in sight, he decided to exercise the opt-out clause of his contract on July 16 and became a free agent.
He did not, however, generate much interest it seems. According to MLB Trade Rumors, he re-signed with Milwaukee on another minor league deal just three days later.
Zimmerman previously played for the Baltimore Orioles, where he appeared in 38 games over the span of four seasons. He was 8-10 with a 5.57 ERA during the course of his career there.
With Milwaukee’s flux of high-quality pitching on both the Major and minor league levels, it is hard to see Zimmerman getting a call up any time soon. However, he may be able to take advantage of the Brewers’ pitching lab and perhaps improve on his mechanics and earn a Major league job elsewhere in the future.
