Milwaukee Brewers reportedly are not looking to sell this offseason

Ever since the Brewers made the head-scratching move to ship Josh Hader to the Padres, there has been industry-wide speculation (primarily from Twitter armchair "GMs") that the Crew was throwing in the towel for the remainder of 2022 and the foreseeable future.

Right-handed pitchers Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff as well as shortstop Willy Adames are three of the most frequent names thrown out into the trade rumors in the early days of this offseason.

However, each of Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (link here), Robert Murray of FanSided (link here) and Tim Daniels of Bleacher Report (link here) have confirmed that while deals are not impossible, they are highly unlikely for this trio of Brewers stars.

Rosenthal notes that while both Luis Urias and highly touted prospect Brice Turang are capable of playing shortstop, moving Adames (4.4 bWAR, 31 home runs), who is one of the Brewers' core players, does not seem likely. Instead, and this is purely speculation on my part, Urias will continue to play all over the infield while Turang will continue to get looks in the outfield.

As far as Burnes and Woodruff, the two components of one of the most fearsome starting pitching duos in the game, it's hard to see either of them being moved. Both are franchise cornerstones and Murray mentions in his article that the Brewers are likelier to build around them than sell them for prospects.

Burnes, 28, is coming off of his second-consecutive Cy Young worthy season (12-8, 2.94 ERA, 243 strikeouts in 202 innings) while Woodruff (13-4, 3.05 ERA, 190 strikeouts in 153 innings) continues to be as reliable a No. 2 starter option as any around the league.

Each of this trio is under control through the 2024 campaign, furthering their respective values. If the Brewers fail to compete in any of the forthcoming seasons, especially closer to 2024, deals would seem likelier but for now, the Brewers seem to be eyeing World Series contention and they will desperately need these pieces if they have any hopes to make it.
