Milwaukee Brewers Ship Formerly Exciting Roster Piece to Oakland Athletics For Minor League Pitcher

The Milwaukee Brewers traded infielder Abraham Toro on Wednesday afternoon to the Oakland Athletics.

The A’s have acquired infielder Abraham Toro in a trade with the Brewers. Minor league pitcher Chad Patrick is headed back to Milwaukee. Oakland already had four vacancies on the 40-man roster, so no further move was necessary.

The 26-year-old native of Canada spent one year in the Milwaukee organization, but played sparingly. He only appeared in nine games at the big league level but did hit .444 with two home runs and nine RBI.

He had been traded from the Seattle Mariners to the Brewers last offseason in a deal that sent Jesse Winker to Milwaukee as well in exchange for second baseman Kolten Wong.

He had been acquired by Seattle in a trade deadline deal in 2021 with the Houston Astros. In 1.5 years with Seattle, he hit just .213.

Over the course of five major league seasons with the three organizations, he's a .211 hitter. He does offer some positional versatility as he can play both second base and third base. He has even appeared in the outfield briefly. He should get a chance at regular playing time with the Athletics, who finished with the worst-record in baseball in 2023 and are in a total rebuild.

Perhaps the Brewers found him expendable because of the other deal they made this week, acquiring infielder Oliver Dunn from the Phillies.

As for Patrick, he has a career 4.96 ERA across three minor league seasons. He's a 25-year-old right-hander.
