With a little more than a month left in the 2025 Triple-A season, several high-end prospects are headed to the circuit starting this week. Among them are Trey Yesavage and Jonah Tong, two of the best Minor League pitchers this season. Plus, former #1 overall pick Travis Bazzana.
The Guardians announced on August 10 via social media that Travis Bazzana is headed to Triple-A Columbus.
Bazzana, the top pick of the 2024 MLB Draft, was lauded for being an elite prospect with top-tier tools around the board. However, this year has not been kind to him. An oblique injury limited him to only 58 games this season. When on the field, he has worked counts but only slashed .254/.374/.418 (.792 OPS), as the OPS was largely held down thanks to less-than-stellar power.
The 22-year-old only hit five home runs in Akron this season.
He wasn’t the only player to be promoted to Columbus. Bazzana will be joined by former Florida Gator Tommy Mace, Ross Carver, and 2023 fourth-round pick Cooper Ingle.
Ingle is the most intriguing name out of the bunch. The former Clemson catcher struck out 70 times, compared to 65 walks, and racked up 38 extra-base hits over 92 games with Akron before the promotion.
Additionally, former first-round pick Ralphy Velazquez is headed to Akron. Former NC State backstop Jacob Cozart will replace Ingle on the Rubberducks’ roster.
The Mets have loaded up their Triple-A affiliate, as Syracuse is locked in a tight battle with Scranton for the second-half title in the IL East. Four high-end prospects in the Mets’ farm system were promoted on August 11: Jett Williams, Carson Benge, Jonah Tong, and Ryan Clifford.
All four played their way up to Triple-A. Clifford, as of August 11, is the Eastern League leader in home runs (24). Tong, meanwhile, is the strikeout leader (162).
Williams spent nearly two full years in Double-A. However, he missed most of 2024 due to injury. This year, the toolsy infielder/outfielder stole 32 bases and slashed .281/.390/.447 (.867 OPS) with 10 home runs and 44 extra-base hits across 96 games.
Lastly, Benge didn’t spend too much time in Double-A. He played just 32 games with Binghamton but hit well there. Benge hit .317/.407/.571 (.978 OPS) across 32 games with the Rumble Ponies.
It’s the second promotion for Benge, who started in High-A, this season.
Trey Yesavage, the Blue Jays’ 2024 first-round pick, is moving up to Buffalo (AAA) per MLB.com.
This is the third promotion for Yesavage this season, as he began the season down in Low-A. Since the start of the year, Yesavage struck out 134 batters over 80.2 IP.
Yesavage posted a 4.50 ERA across 30 innings with New Hampshire. However, he struck out 46 and opposing hitters only batted .198 off him in the Eastern League.
