The Blue Jays big league team may have lost Friday, but the four affiliates in action had a solid day.

There was one rainout (Sunday’s article is going to be jam packed), as the Buffalo Bisons didn’t play Friday but will play a doubleheader on Saturday. As for the rest of the affiliates, they went 2-2.

Let’s dig into the latest Minor League Report!

New Hampshire shutout, again

It was a rough day for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, as they fell 6-0 to the Hartford Yard Goats to move their season record to 15-21, the worst in the Eastern League Northeast division.

It was a whole lot of singles for New Hampshire again, as Devonte Brown, Phil Clarke, Josh Kasevich, Alan Roden, and Riley Tirotta all had one single. On top of that, Roden, Clarke, Tirotta, and Zach Britton all had a walk. Quiet day for the bats.

Trenton Wallace finished with a line of 3 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 7 BB, 6 K, which brought his season ERA to 1.99. Command was obviously lacking in this game, but managing to give up only two runs is impressive.

Abdiel Mendoza finished with a line of 2.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K to bring his season ERA to 5.24 after a terrific start. Afterwards, the bullpen settled down, as Ryan Boyer struck out a batter in his inning and a third of work, while Ian Churchill gave up an unearned run and struck out a batter in his inning of work.

Vancouver hit two home runs en route to a 7-3 win

Once again, the Vancouver Canadians responded to a loss with a win, defeating Spokane 7-3 to bring their season record to 16-16. They are just two games behind Spokane and the Eugene Emeralds for the lead in the Northwest League, with three more games against Spokane.

There were two home runs hit by Vancouver in the evening, as Jace Bohrofen hit his second home run of the season and his second in three games. The power was prevalent after being drafted in 2023, but has cooled off in 2024. Good to see him start hammering the ball.

Jackson Hornung hit the other home run, his third of the season, which gave the Canadians a 6-0 lead at the time. Other players with an extra-base hit were Jommer Hernandez, Dasan Brown , and Bohrofen, who also had a double. As for multi-hit days, Bohrofen had one, as did Brown and Jaden Rudd, who had two singles.

Chris McElvain had the start, finishing with a line of 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K to bring his season ERA to 3.38. Santiago Espinal hasn’t had a great season with Cincinnati, so this trade is looking good. Grayson Thurman replaced McElvain, and gave up a home run in his two innings of work.

Conor Larkin gave up two earned runs and two walks in two thirds of an inning pitched while striking out a batter. Josh Mollerus struck out three in his inning and a third pitched.

Dunedin has won three in a row

The Dunedin Blue Jays have finally started to string some wins together, as they defeated the Jupiter Hammerheads 8-6 on Friday to bring their record to 17-20. This was their third win in a row, and it was thanks to a five-run eighth inning.

Marcos De La Rosa hit the team’s only home run, his first of the season and his seventh of his career. The 22-year-old has been in the organization since 2019, but has never had more than 200 plate appearances. Other players with an extra-base hit were Daniel Pérez and Bryce Arnold, both hit doubles.

In terms of hits, because Dunedin had 11, Yhoangel Aponte, Manuel Beltre, and Pérez all had two-hit games, while Victor Arias, Edward Duran, Alexis Hernandez, De La Rosa, and Arnold all had one hit. Jean Joseph (who hit a home run on Thursday) was the only player without a hit, but he walked twice.

Fernando Pérez started the game and finished with a line of 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K falling just shy of the quality start and picking up a no decision. Bo Bonds was the first out of the bullpen, and struck out a batter in his inning and a third of work. Kai Peterson picked up the win, but finished with a line of 1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K to bring his season ERA to 6. J.J. Sanchez picked up the save, pitching a clean inning.

FCL Jays lose again

With the 4-3 loss to the FCL Tigers, the Florida Complex League Blue Jays’ record now sits at 3-6, fourth in the FCL North division.

Canadian Sam Shaw has been impressive this season, as he went 1-4 with two strikeouts and his second home run of the season. The knock on him has always been the lack of power, but he has now hit two in 38 plate appearances. Maykel Minoso had a double and a triple and finished with three of the FCL Jays’ six hits, while Carlos Vasquez and Faruk De La Cruz both had singles.

Samuel Colmenares had the start for the FCL Jays, finishing with a line of 4.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K with a home run surrendered in his second start of the game. Carlos Meza struck out two and allowed four hits, but didn’t allow an earned run in his 2.1 innings pitched. Luis Torres was tagged with the loss and blown save, giving up two earned runs in an inning and two thirds pitched.
