The New York Mets are heading into the 2026 MLB season with significant roster turnover, as many familiar players departed in free agency or were dealt in trades. Despite the changes, the organization retained its two biggest superstars: shortstop Francisco Lindor and outfielder Juan Soto.

Lindor has continued to serve as the captain of the Mets, setting an example for his teammates both on and off the field.

The 32-year-old switch-hitter remains one of the league’s premier defensive shortstops. A two-time Gold Glove and Platinum Glove winner, Lindor’s consistency up the middle has anchored the Mets’ infield.

His defensive excellence has not come at the expense of his offense. In 2025, Lindor posted a .267 batting average, .346 on-base percentage, .811 OPS, 31 home runs and 86 RBIs across 160 games.

He also stole 31 bases, showcasing the speed and athleticism that continue to make him one of the most complete players in the game.

Lindor’s dominance in all facets has earned him routine recognition across the league. In MLB Network’s Top 100 Players Right Now list for 2026, he was ranked No. 11, narrowly missing the Top 10.

The placement marked a slight drop from last year, when he was ranked sixth, but it remains a testament to his standing among baseball’s elite.

With only a handful of players ranked ahead of him, Lindor’s reputation as one of the sport’s most respected stars is firmly intact. MLB highlighted his ranking on X, underscoring his continued impact.

Lindor’s presence has become even more vital as the Mets enter 2026 with a retooled roster and renewed expectations.

While the team endured a disappointing second-half collapse last season, the front office’s aggressive moves this winter have signaled a clear intent to return to contention. With Soto anchoring the lineup alongside Lindor, the Mets boast one of the most dangerous offensive duos in baseball.

The pitching staff remains uncertain but received notable reinforcements this winter, and Lindor’s consistency offers stability in a year where the Mets will be looking to reassert themselves in the National League. His ability to deliver in big moments, paired with his defensive excellence, makes him the type of player franchises build around with confidence.

As he enters his sixth season in Queens, Lindor’s contract ensures he will remain the face of the Mets for years to come, with the pursuit of a World Series title still firmly within reach.
