MLB Announces Historic Jose Ramirez News on Saturday

The Cleveland Guardians are in the midst of an eight-game winning streak and have inserted themselves right back into the race for the AL Central crown. This is an incredible development, as Cleveland trailed the Detroit Tigers by double-digit games in August but sits just 2.5 games back heading into Saturday.

At the front of the team's recent surge has been the face of the franchise, Jose Ramirez. The 33-year-old veteran has continued to lead the charge for the Guardians in his 13th season. Ramirez has been a consistent power and speed threat, earning a fifth consecutive All-Star selection (seventh overall) for his efforts.

Over 149 games before Saturday’s doubleheader with the Minnesota Twins, Ramirez posted a .282 batting average, .359 on-base percentage, .863 OPS, 29 home runs and 40 stolen bases.

With a postseason berth in sight, Ramirez entered his 150th game of the year with a bang — launching his 30th home run of the season in the top of the first inning and giving the Guardians a 1-0 lead. MLB announced moments later that his feat of 30 home runs and 40 stolen bases in multiple seasons had only been done three other times in league history.

“José Ramírez is just the 4th player in MLB history with multiple seasons of 30 HR and 40 SB. He joins Bobby Bonds (4x), Alfonso Soriano (2x), and Barry Bonds (2x).,” MLB wrote on X. Ramirez first accomplished the feat in 2024.

Ramirez reaching this level of dominance is no surprise, and he continues to make his case as not only the best third baseman in baseball, but one of the top players in the game. He is in the fourth year of his seven-year, $141 million extension signed back in April 2022 — the largest in franchise history. However, given his production and consistency, it may just be the best value in all of MLB.

Ramirez’s production has not gone to waste as Cleveland fights for back-to-back postseason appearances. The Guardians still have three games remaining against the Tigers and likely control their own destiny, but the organization must continue to push. Ramirez has elevated his play in the month of September. In 18 games, he has gone 19-for-68 with six doubles, three home runs, 12 RBIs and four stolen bases.

Ramirez has had an incredible career full of personal accolades, but a World Series title would likely cement his case for the Hall of Fame.
