The Philadelphia Phillies had a solid month of June, despite missing Bryce Harper for most of it. It's all thanks to the pitching staff, and mainly, staff ace Zack Wheeler.
After his strong month of June, Major League Baseball announced that Wheeler was named the National League Pitcher of the Month for his remarkable June performance.

Across his five starts in June, Wheeler had a 0.58 ERA, a 0.87 WHIP, 42 strikeouts, and a 2-1 record across 31 innings pitched. His award came just a few days after a masterpiece against the San Diego Padres.
On June 30th, Wheeler got one last incredible start, as he went eight shutout innings, allowing six hits and striking out 10 in the longest start of his season so far.
During June, Wheeler allowed just two runs the entire month. His season ERA is down to 2.27, and he has a National League-leading 136 strikeouts and an 8-3 record through the first half of the season.
Wheeler also has the best WHIP, 0.907, among all qualified pitchers in the National League. He's averaging his most strikeouts per nine innings of his career, and is also allowing the fewest hits per nine innings in his career.
It's been a remarkable season so far for Wheeler, and if he were to keep this up, he'd have a strong case to be named the National League Cy Young Award winner for the first time in his career.
Wheeler's dominance in June helped push the Phillies back into first place in the National League East and also made a strong case for his Cy Young candidacy at the end of the year.
