Thursday's MLB slate has quite a few afternoon games, so there's no time to waste for the day's looks. We touch games throughout the day to cover us from 1 p.m. to midnight.
The books are floating out this 5.5 number on Blake Snell because Toronto doesn't strike out much against lefties, so we get it. The Blue Jays have fanned at the fourth-lowest rate against LHP this season, however, three straight starting lefties have hit their K totals against Toronto, so perhaps this is a team worth targeting a bit more in this market.
Snell's production speaks for itself. He's recorded 6+ strikeouts in 10 straight games, and has hit 7+ Ks in nine straight. FanDuel has Snell listed at 6.5 at +114, if you'd like to take the chance on an extra strikeout.
Minnesota's Pablo Lopez has been one of the best strikeout pitchers this season, particularly his swinging strike rate, which ranks in the 90th percentile league-wide.
Lopez has piled up 9+ strikeouts in four of his last six games, with his two down games seeing him finish with six and seven Ks. Today, Lopez will see a Seattle team striking out at the second-highest frequency against right-handed pitching.
Seven of the past nine starting RHP to face the Mariners have gone over their strikeout total, which includes a nine-K outing yesterday from Kenta Maeda. Load us up some Lopez today.
We'll end the night by fading Houston's JP France on his K total, which admittedly is against a strikeout-prone Oakland team. While the Athletics are a good target for strikeout overs, Ks just haven't been part of France's game this season.
His Ks/inning ranks in the bottom 10th percentile of MLB, and he has failed to exceed this line in nine of his 12 starts this year. This line feels a bit high for a pitcher who hasn't even reached five strikeouts since June 10.
