After a sweep of the lowly White Sox, the Dodgers have won eight of their past 10 games. After an off day yesterday, they will continue their road trip against the hated Giants.

The Giants fell yesterday to the Cubs in extra innings. However, they did take three of four games in the series and will look to stay hot behind ace Logan Webb tonight.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers rank fifth in MLB in batting average and third in runs scored. They are averaging 5.8 runs per game against the Giants this season. However, Mookie Betts is someone they'll certainly miss in tonight’s game as he is 10-for-29 with two home runs against Webb.

Betts has been out since June 16th with a fractured wrist, but the Dodgers have not missed a beat because their other superstars — Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman — have stepped up.

Ohtani has a RBI in each of his past 10 games. In that span, he is hitting .444 with eight home runs, 17 RBI and a 1.194 OPS. He is also 3-for-7 with a double against Webb in his career. Meanwhile, Freeman has three home runs and eight RBI in that span. He has also fared well against Webb as he is 14-for-31 (.458) with three doubles, one home run and five RBI against him.

Meanwhile, Landon Knack will look to put together another solid start. Through his first five MLB starts, Knack has a 2.10 ERA and a .217 xBA. He has primarily relied on his fastball and slider as he has thrown those two pitches 70% of the time. His ground-ball rate is just 37.8%, but at Oracle Park, he should be able to keep the ball in the yard if he is going to survive on fly ball outs.

San Francisco Giants

Now in his sixth season with the Giants, Webb has seen a lot of the Dodgers over the years. In 14 career starts against the Dodgers, he is 4-6 with a 4.05 ERA. He is 1-1 this season in two starts and tossed scoreless six innings against them last month.

Since then, the Giants have lost five of Webb's past seven starts. However, Webb maintains a 3.16 ERA. Webb has a ground-ball rate of 57.1% as he relies on his sinker and ranks in the 94th percentile among qualified pitchers in ground-ball rate.

He has also done a great job of limiting free passes as he ranks in the 86th in walk rate. However, he will face a challenge from the Dodgers in this regard. The Dodgers are second in walk rate against right-handed pitchers and have shown an ability to wait out Webb. In 95 2/3 innings against other opponents, Webb has issued just 18 walks. However in 9 2/3 innings against the Dodgers this season, Webb has issued five walks.

Meanwhile, the Giants will need to find more offensive success against the Dodgers. In the first six meetings, they have averaged just 3.5 runs per game. One player who could provide a spark is Heliot Ramos.

Since his call-up in May, Ramos is hitting .287 with 10 homers, 35 RBI and a .870 OPS. However, he's currently in a 4-for-24 slump.

Matt Chapman and Luis Matos have been hot for the Giants over the past week. They are both hitting over .350 with seven hits, a home run and over 10 total bases in their past six games.

Dodgers vs. Giants

Betting Pick & Prediction

In this matchup, we have the better starting pitcher (Webb) taking on the better team (Dodgers). Thus, the moneyline is essentially a pick’em.

Though Webb was able to shut the Dodgers down last month, the Dodgers have been able to get to him throughout his career. Last season, the Dodgers won a game Webb started 9-1 in San Francisco — and that was before adding Ohtani. Additionally, they will likely only see him for six innings. Webb has pitched into the seventh inning in just one of his regular season starts against the Dodgers over the past four seasons.

If the game is tied when he departs, the Dodgers will likely greater than -130 live. With the Dodgers at nearly even money, I have to take advantage of the value, despite Webb starting.
