The Chicago Cubs' Kyle Tucker is off to a great start with the team after being traded from the Houston Astros before the season.
Last week, the Toronto Blue Jays reached an agreement with star first-baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on a 14-year, $500 million contract, and that has many wondering how those terms affect Kyle Tucker's free agency following this season.
MLB Insider Jon Heyman believes that Kyle Tucker's camp should set the baseline price for Tucker's upcoming contract at $500 million because Heyman thinks Tucker is more valuable than Guerrero Jr.
It's a very interesting conversation because both are top-level sluggers in MLB, but hit on opposite sides of the plate and play two completely different positions. Tucker had 23 home runs in just 78 games in 2024 and has made the All-Star team in three consecutive seasons. On top of that, the Cubs' top offseason acquisition is off to a great start with the team.
It was announced this week that Tucker has been named the National League Player of the Week for the first week in April. He was 9-for-23 with three home runs in six games, which gave him a share of the NL lead in home runs, hits, doubles, and RBIs.
On Heyman's appearance on the radio show, he compared Tucker's situation to that of Juan Soto, who signed the largest contract in MLB history in the offseason for over $750 million.
If Tucker continues on the trajectory he's on this season, paired with his consistency and track record of productivity, there's no reason to believe he wouldn't receive contract offers of north of $500 million.
