MLB Insider Links Yankees to Right-Handed Outfielder Ahead of Trade Deadline

For weeks, it’s been widely assumed the Yankees would target a right-handed hitting infielder at the trade deadline. But according to MLB insider Jon Heyman, that may not be the only need on Brian Cashman’s radar.

Speaking on MLB Network, Heyman said the Yankees will “look at the bullpen” as their primary focus—but also noted the team is exploring the addition of a right-handed hitting outfielder. That twist adds a layer of intrigue to a roster that already includes Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham, and Jasson Dominguez.

“They’re going to look at the bullpen,” Heyman said. “Main thing for the Yankees. [They] will look at a right-handed hitting outfielder as well.”

At first glance, it’s a curious development. Judge is having another MVP-caliber season, Bellinger has been a stabilizing force over the past month and Grisham has had a breakout season.

But there’s a subtle logic behind the move.

The Yankees lack a true right-handed corner outfield bat off the bench. Grisham and Bellinger are both left-handed hitters, and Dominguez is a switch-hitter still finding his swing in the big leagues.

If the Yankees are eyeing a right-handed power option who can spot-start against lefties or provide matchup flexibility, the fit becomes clearer.

They have long been linked to right-handed third basemen like Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Eugenio Suarez.

The team may also want outfield depth in the event of injury, or simply to guard against overexposing Dominguez down the stretch.

The bullpen remains the main item on the shopping list, but as Heyman noted, the Yankees are widening the lens. A right-handed outfield addition wouldn’t be the flashiest move, but it might prove to be the most strategic.
