The Los Angeles Dodgers have. One of the top teams in baseball, and superstars littered throughout the roster. However, the team has a significant issue to address before the trade deadline.
Dave Roberts' Dodgers need to bring in a new reliever. Between the struggles of the veteran additions in the offseason and the plethora of injuries, the bullpen needs to be addressed.
In an article from ESPN, Alden Gonzalez provided a clear update on what kind of reliever the team will target at the trade deadline.
"But the Dodgers' focus ahead of the deadline is still clearly the bullpen," Gonzalez writes, "specifically a high-leverage, right-handed reliever."
The Dodgers have seen Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott get off to lackluster starts, and now Scott is likely headed to the injured list after being pulled mid-outing due to some discomfort in his arm.
Yates is the only healthy right-handed reliever who can be trusted in high-leverage spots. Blake Treinen is hurt, as is Michael Kopech. While Treinen could return soon, Kopech will be out for a while.
As Gonzalez reports, the Dodgers are expected to pursue a right-handed reliever, particularly one who could close out games.
They've been linked to righties Emmanuel Clase, Griffin Jax, and Jhoan Duran, although all three would be tough to acquire.
Ryan Helsley of the St. Louis Cardinals and David Bednar of the Pittsburgh Pirates are two names to monitor as potential high-leverage right-handers who could be on the move at the deadline.
The Dodgers want to improve their bullpen, specifically with a high-leverage right-handed reliever. Fortunately, there are plenty of options that could be available.
It's shaping up to be a busy trade deadline for the Dodgers, with the team looking to land a right-handed reliever to bolster a bullpen which has been the seventh worst in baseball this season with a 4.35 ERA.
