MLB Insider Says Division Champion Could Be Headed For Major Downturn in 2024

The Milwaukee Brewers could be headed for a major regression in 2024, according to ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney.

Olney's full comments were made on the 'Brady Farkas Show' and can be heard here.

"The Milwaukee Brewers, with their regression, I think you're absolutely understating it. I think this organization has the chance to plummet this year. It starts with the trading of Corbin Burnes, their ace, Cy Young Award winner, he's a perennial contender. He gets dealt to the Baltimore Orioles during the course of the winter. To be honest, I don't know why they signed Rhys Hoskins.... because they're not going to be in a position to win."

Olney's also referenced the catastrophic news from earlier this week in which it was reported that All-Star closer Devin Williams will miss three months because of multiple fractures in his back.

The Brewers won the National League Central last season and have been steadily good for the last decade or so, but they do face major questions heading into the season. First, they have a new manager in Pat Murphy after Craig Counsell bolted for the division-rival Chicago Cubs. Next, they traded Burnes but saw other turmoil in the rotation as well: Brandon Woodruff is out for the year with injury, Adrian Houser was traded and Eric Lauer left in free agency too.

Finally, because of constant payroll questions, Milwaukee may be in a position to have to trade shortstop Willy Adames at some point during the season as well.

The Brewers open up the season on March 28 against the New York Mets.
