The Boston Red Sox new shiny toy is paying dividends just over one week into the 2025 season.
Third baseman Alex Bregman went 4-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and six RBIs in the Red Sox's 18-7 routing of the St. Louis Cardinals to close out the sweep at Fenway Park.
Bregman has always found success at the plate in Fenway. In 24 games, he owns 20 extra-base hits there, which makes him second all-time in that span with Travis Hafner at No. 1 with 21.
"The energy in the ballpark has been electric,” Bregman said to MLB.com. “The fans have been amazing. Obviously, this is one of, if not the most treasured destinations to play baseball. When teams come in here, they're gonna bring their ‘A’ game, so we need to be on top of it, and we want to defend Fenway and play well at home this year, and I think we did a good job here in this first series. Let's keep it going.”
Bregman signed with Boston for a three-year deal worth $120 million in February.
In 10 games as a member of the Red Sox, the defending AL Gold Glove winner on the hot corner is pumping out a .341/.383/.591 slash line.
On Monday, the MLB announced that Bregman was the American League Player of the Week. In that span, he's gone 11-for-27, including two doubles, two home runs and 8 RBIs.

Coincidentally, Kyle Tucker, Bregman's former teammate from his career on the Houston Astros, was named National League Player of the Week.
This is also Tucker's first season away from the Astros. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs in December in exchange for third baseman Isaac Paredes, pitcher Hayden Wesneski and Top 100 prospect Cam Smith. He signed a one-year deal to avoid arbitration thereafter.
