Joe Torre has done nearly everything imaginable in the game of baseball. Soon to turn 85, Torre has won four World Series titles, made nine All-Star appearances as a player, won the National League MVP award, and been named American League Manager of the Year twice.

His No. 6 jersey was retired by the New York Yankees, and he’s a member of both the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame.

On Tuesday, MLB made a special announcement about the legendary manager who won over 2,300 games in his career:

“JUST IN: Joe Torre will serve as an honorary coach for the American League All-Stars!”

Torre managed the All-Star Game six times during his career, having done it last in 2004 while with the Yankees. He was also named Sporting News’ Manager of the Decade for the 2000s.

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will be held July 15 at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. Aaron Boone of the Yankees and Dave Roberts of the Braves will serve as the official managers for the game.

Torre's managerial career began in 1977 with the New York Mets. After four full seasons, he was let go during the strike-shortened 1981 season. He moved on to the Atlanta Braves in 1982, winning 80 or more games in each of his three seasons before being dismissed after the 1984 campaign.

In 1990, he was hired by the St. Louis Cardinals. Torre went 351-354 during his tenure there and was fired in June 1995. That’s when his biggest opportunity arrived; he was hired to manage the Yankees for the 1996 season.

In his first year in New York, Torre led the Yankees to a World Series title. He went on to win four championships in five seasons and appeared in two other fall classics. His overall record with the Yankees was 1,173-767.

After a loss in the 2007 ALDS, Torre's contract was not renewed. He then joined the Los Angeles Dodgers, managing the club for three seasons. He won 259 games in LA and reached the NLCS twice.

Since 2020, Torre has served as a special assistant to the MLB Commissioner.
