MLB Mock Trade: Dodgers Would Send This Starter to Pitcher-Hungry Yankees

The Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the biggest first-world problems in the league: they have too much pitching.

Most would argue that there is no such thing as too much pitching, but when studs like Bobby Miller, Dustin May, and Tony Gonsolin, to name a few, are not even guaranteed a rotation spot once the Dodgers are fully healthy, someone could be on the chopping block.

This latest mock trade by Newsweek would send Bobby Miller to the pitcher-hungry New York Yankees for a package centered around one of their top prospects: Everson Pereira.

Pereira, a 23-year-old outfielder ranked 14th among Yankees prospects, would bolster an already impressive Los Angeles farm system and continue to build toward the future while maintaining present dominance.

Regardless of his return value, Miller will be mentioned among Dodgers trade candidates all summer. He has intriguing stuff, led by a hard four-seamer and mid-to-high 80s changeup.

However, despite his upside at 25 years old, Miller’s chance at cracking the Los Angeles rotation is slipping through the cracks.

Miller was sidelined for several months last year due to a shoulder injury, a microcosm of his disastrous campaign. Over 13 starts and 56 innings, Miller was touched for an 8.52 ERA, 1.768 WHIP, and a 1.73 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The 2020 first-round pick also spent time in triple-A Oklahoma City but had a 5.06 ERA over 26 and 2/3 innings.

Even if Miller stays with the organization, dealing with a bottom-end starter (bottom-end for Los Angeles’ standards) such as May or Gonsolin for prospects would make sense. On the other hand, with this many assets, the Dodgers could look for a more immediate, all-in type of play.

They could also stay put and keep their current collection of all-stars but look for Miller’s name to circulate among league circles.
