Thoughts on the Board and Best Bets

It's important to acknowledge that Major League Baseball teams have shown a proclivity for stowing prospects in the minors for a few extra weeks to milk an extra year of contract control over them.

With that provision in place, it makes it even more imperative to know which rookies are on Opening Day rosters, and thus giving themselves a potentially full-season of work to have an impact and rack up statistics.

The first name this applies to is Bobby Witt Jr., who is projected to start at third base for the Kansas City Royals.

Witt has had a strong spring training, and has shifted to third base from his natural shortstop in order to play as soon as possible.

On an ascending team with an established role from Day One, Witt offers us strong value at his current +300.

The other top prospects on Opening Day Rosters include pitcher Hunter Greene (+650) of the Reds and first basemen Spencer Torkelson (+500) of the Lions.

Consider both rookies when their utility for their teams is settled.

Then there's Seiya Suzuki, who signed a monster five-year, $85-million contract with the Chicago Cubs after a strong career in Japan.

Suzuki is slotted to hit in the heart of Chicago's lineup and has proven success against top international talent.

At +350, this feels like another future worth heavy consideration.

Ultimately, I like both Witt Jr. and Suzuki, and since they are in different leagues, there's a chance we can win both.

They are favorites for a reason.

Best Bets: Bobby Witt Jr. (+300) and Seiya Suzuki (+350)
