MLB Sends Strong Jacob deGrom Statement on Monday

Jacob deGrom has been a fixture in Major League Baseball since debuting with the New York Mets in 2014. Over the years, he’s built a reputation as one of the most dominant pitchers in the game.

Now 36, deGrom is a four-time All-Star, two-time Cy Young Award winner, and was named National League Rookie of the Year in 2014.

But injuries have been a constant part of his journey. Because of them, the right-hander has just 88 career wins, which doesn't reflect his elite talent. Still, deGrom hasn’t let the setbacks define him. Instead, he quietly continues to do what he does best: pitch at a high level.

Coming off another injury-shortened campaign in 2024, deGrom has returned to the Texas Rangers' rotation this season and hasn’t missed a beat. He’s looked sharp once again.

On Monday afternoon, MLB highlighted deGrom’s return with a simple message:

“The deGrominator is back.”

The nickname “deGrominator” has followed him throughout his career, and it’s fitting given his recent dominance. Over his last three starts, deGrom has pitched 20 innings, allowing just 13 hits and four earned runs while striking out 26. He’s 2-0 in that span, and the Rangers have won four of his last five starts.

So far in 2025, deGrom owns a 4-1 record with a 2.33 ERA and an impressive 0.93 WHIP.

The last time deGrom stayed healthy for a full season was in 2019. He made 32 starts in both 2018 and 2019, but since then has logged seasons of just 12, 15, 11, 6 and 3 starts respectively.

The Rangers began Monday with a 26-28 overall record, placing them third in the American League West. One of their biggest issues has been road performance, where they’ve gone just 9-18 in 2025.

Texas opened a three-game home series Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays. After that, the St. Louis Cardinals come to town for a weekend matchup.
