MLB Shares Kristian Campbell Buzz Amid Red Sox-Mets Clash

It's been an up-and-down season for the Boston Red Sox so far in 2025, but one of the bright spots has been rookie second baseman Kristian Campbell.

Through his first 40 MLB appearances, Campbell has accumulated 5 home runs and 15 RBI, with an OPS of .708.

His batting average qualifies as an area with room for improvement, at .233, but overall Campbell has displayed that he's got what it takes to be an everyday major leaguer. And the MLB experts agree.

On May 20, ahead of game two of a home series at Fenway Park hosting the New York Mets, the MLB X account highlighted Campbell as one of five "early contenders" for the American League Rookie of the Year award.

His competition included Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson, New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez, Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Shane Smith and Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano.

The graphic also noted that these early AL Rookie of the Year contenders were chosen by a "panel of MLB.com experts."

Although the Red Sox currently sit at 24-25 on the year, the future is looking up as Campbell could soon be joined by top prospects like Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony.

If all goes well, Boston may even have multiple rookies in the hunt the next time the MLB shares an update on the AL Rookie of the Year race. But for now, Campbell is the leader in the clubhouse.

Red Sox right-hander Walker Buehler will take the mound for Boston on Tuesday night, facing off against Mets counterpart Clay Holmes.
