Bryan Woo is off to a fantastic start in the 2025 MLB season. The 25-year-old right-hander from Oakland, California, has made nine starts and holds a 5-1 record.
Woo boasts a 2.65 ERA, which he lowered in his most recent outing on May 18 against the Padres. He threw seven innings in that game, allowing just one run on five hits. Over his last five starts, Woo has pitched 31.2 innings and given up only eight earned runs, five of which came in a single outing against the Athletics on May 7.
Despite his strong performance, Woo was left off MLB's latest Top 10 Pitcher Power Rankings, posted Thursday morning. Fans quickly took to social media to voice their frustration.
"Hunter Brown emerges at the top as Kris Bubic and Jacob deGrom land on this week's Pitcher Power Rankings "
The comments were swift and vocal:
"Bryan Woo."
"Bryan Woo??"
"Bryan Woo snubbed and Max Fried only at 3 is devious."
"Bryan Woo should be on here tbh."
"bryan woo and jesus luzardo should be on here."
"Why does Bryan woo get overlooked so much."
Woo has been a staple in the Mariners' rotation since debuting in 2023. Over 49 career starts, he holds an 18-9 record with a 3.27 ERA. Last season, he won nine of 12 decisions and led all starting pitchers in walk rate, issuing free passes to just 2.6% of batters faced.
Before the majors, Woo pitched at Cal Poly but was limited in college starts due to Tommy John surgery. He was drafted 174th overall in the 2021 MLB Draft.
He’s slated to make his next start Saturday in Houston, where he’ll face Framber Valdez and the Astros.
As for the Power Rankings, Astros righty Hunter Brown took the top spot. He was followed by Tarik Skubal, Max Fried, Zack Wheeler and Nathan Eovaldi. Rounding out the Top 10 were Kris Bubic, Garrett Crochet, Paul Skenes, Jacob deGrom and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Another notable omission was Jesus Luzardo. The Marlins left-hander is 5-0 with a 1.95 ERA this season and struck out 10 in a 7-4 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.
